Setup & Verification

Google Business Profile setup that passes verification and stays live

A good setup starts before you open the form: check the business is eligible, search for an existing listing, and decide who will own it. Then I enter the real name, the right category, and an address or service area, and we finish verification together.

Phase 01

Eligibility & Existing Listings

Checking that the business qualifies, and searching Google Maps for an old or duplicate listing before creating a new one.

Phase 02

Video Verification Preparation

Planning one continuous video that shows the sign and street, your stock or tools, and an area only staff can reach.

Phase 03

The Real Business Name

Using the name on your sign, website, and documents, with no keywords or city names added to it.

Phase 04

Other Verification Methods

Handling the method Google offers, such as a phone code or a postcard, and what to do if verification fails.

Who I Set Up

I only set up real businesses that Google allows: a place customers visit, or a business that travels to customers. I follow Google rules on names and addresses, which lowers the risk of a suspension later.

Key takeaway

A good Google Business Profile setup starts before you open the form: check that the business is eligible, search for an existing listing, and decide who will own it. Then enter the real name, the right category, and an address or service area, and finish verification. I do it for PKR 45,000, and you stay the owner.

Who this is for, and who should skip it

This page is for owners who have no profile yet, who started one and got stuck, or who are opening a new branch. It is also for anyone whose profile was set up by someone who has since left, and who is not sure who controls it now.

This is for you if

  • Your business has no profile on Google Maps, or the one you started never got verified.
  • Verification keeps failing and you do not know what Google wants to see.
  • A former employee, relative, or agency created the profile and you cannot get in.
  • You are opening a new branch and want its profile right from day one.

Skip this if

  • Your business sells only online and never meets customers. Google does not allow a profile for that.
  • Your profile is already live and verified but ranks poorly. That calls for optimization, not setup.
  • Your profile is suspended. An appeal comes first.

Before you start: three checks

Most failed setups go wrong before the first field. These three checks save weeks.

Is the business eligible?

Google allows a profile for a business that has a place customers visit, or that travels to customers where they are. A shop, a clinic, or an office qualifies. So does a plumber or a tutor who goes to homes. A business that only sells online does not. A virtual office, meaning a rented mailing address where you do not work, is not eligible. A desk in a co-working space only qualifies with permanent signage, customers received there, and your own staff present during business hours.

Does a listing already exist?

Search your business name and phone number on Google Maps. Many businesses already have a listing, created by a customer, a past owner, or Google itself. If one exists, you claim it rather than create a second. A second profile for the same place breaks Google's rules and can get both suspended.

Who will own it?

Use a Google account that belongs to the business and that you control. The owner should be the primary owner. Anyone who helps you, including me, should be added as a manager. If someone else already owns your listing, Google has a request access process, covered below.

How I set up a profile, step by step

  1. Step 01

    Start or claim the listing

I go to business.google.com/add with you, search for the business, and either claim the existing listing or create a new one.

What this finds. One profile for the business, owned by an account you control.

  2. Step 02

    Enter the real business name

I use the name on your sign, your website, and your documents, with nothing added.

What this finds. A name that matches what Google can check.

  3. Step 03

    Choose the primary category

I compare the categories of the top results for your main service and pick the most specific one that fits.

What this finds. A category that matches what customers search for.

  4. Step 04

Set the address or the service area

A shop or office shows its address and a pin on the real entrance. A business that travels to customers hides the address and sets a service area.

What this finds. A location Google accepts and customers can use.

  5. Step 05

    Add phone, website, and hours

I add a phone that reaches this location, a link to the page for this location, and the hours customers can visit or call.

What this finds. Contact details that agree with the rest of the web.

  6. Step 06

    Complete verification

I prepare you for the method Google offers, which is often a short video, and we complete it together.

What this finds. A verified profile that can show publicly.

After verification I add services, photos, attributes, and a short description, and set up a review link. That last stage is where setup becomes optimization to Google's rules, and it is included in the same price.

How verification works now

Everything in this section follows Google Business Profile Help, which I re-read before writing this page. Verification tells Google you are allowed to represent the business. Google says a verified business is more likely to show in local results, and you cannot manage most of the profile until it is done.

Google chooses the method, and the owner cannot change it. The options depend on the business type, its public information, its region, and its hours. Some businesses need more than one method.

MethodWhat it involvesWhat to prepare
Video recordingA short continuous video of the location and the businessThe outside sign, the street, your equipment, and an employee only area
Live video callThe same proof, shown live to a Google support agentA steady phone, good light, and keys to open the premises
Phone or textA code sent to the business phoneAccess to the number on the profile
EmailA code sent to a business emailAccess to that inbox
PostcardA code sent by mail to the addressAn address the post can find, and patience
InstantFor some businesses whose website is already verified in Google Search ConsoleThe same account that owns the Search Console property

For a video, Google asks for three things: your current location, shown by outside signs, nearby businesses, or a street sign; your business or equipment, such as products, branded items, or tools; and proof that you manage the business, such as access to an employee only area or opening the door with your keys. Google says verification reviews take up to 5 business days, and sometimes longer.

If a postcard is the method, do not edit the name, address, or category while you wait, and do not request a new code. Either one makes the code in the mail stop working.

If verification fails, Google shows the "Get verified" button again, or a "Review issues" note for a rejected video. Read the issue, fix what the video did not show, and try again.

What a finished profile includes

  • The real business name, entered once, with no added words
  • The most specific primary category, plus only the extra categories you need
  • An address with the pin on the entrance, or a hidden address with an honest service area
  • A phone number that reaches this location and that the business controls
  • A link to the website page for this location
  • Regular hours, with special hours set for holidays
  • A list of services in the words customers use
  • Real photos of the outside, the inside, the team, and the work
  • A short review link and a QR code for the counter
  • You as primary owner, with helpers added as managers

Ownership and access, done properly

Google lets a profile have several owners and managers, but only one primary owner. Owners have full control, including adding and removing people and deleting the profile. Managers can do almost everything else, such as editing details and replying to reviews, but cannot add or remove users or remove the profile.

So the right setup is simple: the business is the primary owner, and anyone who helps is a manager. Google also says a third party that manages a profile for a client must have the owner's consent. When someone new becomes an owner or manager, Google makes them wait 7 days before some features work, including transferring primary ownership.

If someone else owns your listing and will not hand it over, you can request access. Google emails the current owner. If they do not reply after 3 days, you may get the option to claim the profile yourself. I walk owners through this often, because profiles made by a former employee or an old agency are common.

Manager access is also how I work after setup, if you want help to continue. Replies, photos, seasonal hours, and edits handled as a manager are what I offer as hands on monthly profile work.

Mistakes that cause trouble later

Myth. Adding the service and the city to the name helps a new profile get noticed.

What is true. Google allows only the real name. A new profile with extra words in the name is an easy target for suspension.

Myth. A home address is fine to show if you work from home.

What is true. If customers do not visit you there, Google asks you to hide the address and set a service area instead.

Myth. You can pick the easiest verification method.

What is true. Google chooses the method based on the business and the region. Preparing for the method it offers is what matters.

Myth. Letting the agency own the profile saves you work.

What is true. If the agency leaves, you may lose access. Keep primary ownership and give helpers manager access.

Myth. Making a fresh profile is quicker than fixing a stuck one.

What is true. A second profile for the same business breaks Google's rules. Claim or fix the one that exists.

If a mistake has already led to a suspension, my page on why Google suspends listings covers what to do next. If you want the appeal handled for you, that is my service for suspended listings. When the profile is live but nobody can find it, the map visibility checks for live listings are the place to start.

What it costs

All amounts are in Pakistani rupees and match my published price list.

OptionPriceBest when
Business Profile setup and optimizationPKR 45,000 one time, done in 3 to 5 business daysYou want the profile created or claimed, verified, and completed for you
Strategy callPKR 15,000 per hourYou want to do the setup yourself, with me checking each step
Local and growth starterPKR 85,000 per monthYou want the profile set up and then looked after every month

The 3 to 5 business days cover my work. Google's own verification review can add time, and I tell you when we are waiting on Google rather than on me. If you only want someone to check your plan, book a single hour with me. Monthly options are set out in my rupee plans for local work.

A realistic timeline

  1. Day 1

    Checks and claim

Eligibility, the existing listing search, ownership, and the claim or the new profile.

  2. Days 2 to 3

    Fields and verification

Name, category, address or service area, phone, website, hours, and the verification step Google offers.

  3. Days 3 to 5

    Completion

Services, photos, attributes, description, review link, and a first geo-grid scan as a baseline.

A new profile can take time to show widely after verification. Ranking for competitive searches depends on reviews and mentions that build up over months. That longer work is part of local SEO for the whole area you serve. For a sense of what clean profile details and listings can change, see one electrician's before and after map scans, read with the caveat that the two scans are centred on different parts of the city.

Notes for businesses in Pakistan

Video verification is the method many Pakistani owners meet, and the same things trip them up. Start the video outside, with the shop sign and the street in view, and a neighbouring shop if you can. Walk in without cutting the video, show your stock or tools, and open a back room or a cash counter only staff can reach. A sign on a banner that comes down at night is weaker than a fixed board.

Many shops sit in markets where the street address is vague. Place the pin by hand on the real entrance, and write the address line the way a courier would understand it.

Home based businesses are common, from tutors to caterers. Hide the home address and set a service area of the neighbourhoods you really cover. Google says a service area should not reach beyond about 2 hours of driving.

Shop signs often show the name in English and in Urdu. Enter the name once, in the version customers use. Google does not allow the same name repeated in two scripts.

Once the profile is live, get your details matched across the directories where your business already appears. I handle that as cleaning up your directory details. For owners in the twin cities, my page on local search for Rawalpindi businesses covers the same setup work there.

The tools I use for this

  • Google Maps, signed out, to search for existing and duplicate listings
  • The Business Profile dashboard and its People and access settings
  • Google's guidelines for representing a business, read against each field
  • Google Search Console, where the website is already verified
  • A geo-grid rank tracker for the baseline scan

Frequently asked questions

Is Google Business Profile free?

Yes. Google lets you add or claim a Business Profile at no charge. You pay only if you hire help with the setup, the verification, or the work afterwards.

How do I create a Business Profile?

Go to business.google.com/add, search for your business, and either claim the listing that exists or add a new one. Enter the real name, the primary category, the address or service area, a phone number, a website, and hours, then complete the verification Google offers.

How does Google verify my business?

Google picks the method, which can be a video recording, a live video call, a phone or text code, an email, a postcard, or instant verification for some businesses. For video, it wants to see the location, the business or its equipment, and proof that you manage it.

Can I set up a profile without an address?

Yes, if you travel to customers. Google asks service area businesses to hide the address and list the areas they serve instead. You still enter the address privately during setup.

How long does verification take?

Google says verification reviews take up to 5 business days, and sometimes longer. A postcard takes as long as the post does. Do not edit the name, address, or category while you wait.

Can someone set it up for me?

Yes, with your consent, and you should stay the primary owner. Google says third parties that manage a profile for a business must have the owner's consent. Add your helper as a manager.

What if someone else already owns my listing?

Request access through the listing. Google emails the current owner, and if they do not respond after 3 days, you may get the option to claim the profile yourself.

How much does setup cost?

My setup and optimization costs PKR 45,000 one time and takes 3 to 5 business days of work, plus any waiting time on Google's verification review.

Will a new profile rank straight away?

Usually not for competitive searches. A verified profile can appear for its name quickly. Showing for the service in your area depends on the category, reviews, and mentions that build up over months.
