Listings and NAP Cleanup

Local citation building that starts with cleanup

Citations are one small part of local search. I find where your business already appears online, make the name, address, and phone match your Google Business Profile, then add a short list of listings people actually use.

Module 01

Listings That Matter in Pakistan

Listings made by hand on Apple Maps, Bing Places, chambers of commerce, trade bodies, and real Pakistani directories.

Module 02

Old and Duplicate Listings

Finding old addresses, wrong numbers, and duplicate profiles, then correcting them, claiming them, or reporting them for removal.

Module 03

One Correct Set of Details

Matching the name, address, and phone on every listing to your Business Profile, so customers reach the right place.

Module 04

LocalBusiness Schema Integration

Adding LocalBusiness JSON-LD to your website so the details on your own pages match your listings and profile.

Citation and local outcome

An electrician in New Orleans moved its average Map Pack rank from across a 9 by 9 geo-grid for its main search.

Key takeaway

Local citation building is mostly cleanup. Before adding any new listing, I find every place your business already appears online and make the name, address, and phone number match your Google Business Profile. Then I add a short list of listings people and search systems actually use. Bulk packages of thousands rarely help.

Who this service suits, and who it does not

A citation is any mention of your business name, address, and phone number on another website: a directory, a map service, a social profile, an industry body, a news article. Citations help people find you and help Google trust that the details on your profile are real. They are one small part of local search, and this page treats them that way.

This is for you if

  • Your business moved, changed its number, or changed its name, and old details still show online.
  • Customers have called a wrong number or gone to an old address they found on a directory.
  • You have more than one Google Business Profile, or Google shows details you never entered.
  • You are new and want a clean, correct set of listings from the start.

Skip this if

  • You want thousands of directory links for a fixed fee. I do not sell bulk submissions.
  • Your profile is suspended. Reinstatement comes first, and citations will not lift a suspension.
  • You expect citations alone to put you in the Map Pack. Google's own guidance points elsewhere first.

If your business does not show on the map at all, citations are rarely the first fix. Start with why a business disappears from Google Maps, which walks through the checks in order.

What citations do, and what they do not

Google's help page on local ranking names three factors: relevance, distance, and prominence. Relevance is how well your profile matches the search. Distance is how far you are from the person searching. Prominence is how well known your business is, and Google says that rests on information such as how many websites link to you and how many reviews you have. It also says there is no way to pay for a better local ranking.

Directories are not named on that page as a factor. In practice, citations matter in three ways:

  1. Consistency. When your website, your profile, and the listings people find all show the same details, there is nothing that casts doubt on your business. Conflicting addresses can confuse both customers and Google.
  2. Discovery. Some people find businesses through other maps, a directory, or a trade body. A correct listing there sends real customers, whatever it does for ranking.
  3. Prominence, a little. A listing on a respected local or industry site is a mention, and sometimes a link, from a source people trust.

This is why I spend more time fixing wrong listings than building new ones. A wrong phone number on a popular directory costs you calls today. A new listing on an unknown directory does very little.

The three factors Google names for local results. You control relevance and prominence; distance depends on where the searcher is. Diagram, not client data.

The listings that matter

Not all citations are equal. I sort them into four groups and work through them in this order.

GroupExamplesWhy it matters
Core map servicesGoogle Business Profile, Apple Business Connect for Apple Maps, Bing PlacesThese feed the maps on most phones and in many cars and assistants
Social and review profilesFacebook page, Instagram profile, review sites in your fieldCustomers check these before calling, and many Pakistani firms keep their most current details here
Industry and local bodiesChamber of commerce membership listings, trade associations, professional councils, supplier listsA trusted source in your field that confirms you exist and what you do
General directoriesWell known business directories that run Pakistan editions, such as Cylex or TuugoUseful for consistency and some discovery, but low weight on their own

For a typical small business, getting the first three groups right covers most of the value. The fourth group is filled in selectively, only where a directory is real, indexed, and visited by people in your city.

How the work runs

  1. Step 01

Agree on the one true version of your details

We write down the exact business name, address, phone number, website, hours, and categories, as they appear on your Google Business Profile and your signage. Every listing will match this version.

What this finds. Differences between what you think your details are and what your profile actually shows.

  2. Step 02

    Find every existing listing

I search for your business name, old names, old phone numbers, and old addresses, and record every listing I find in a shared spreadsheet with its URL and what it says.

What this finds. Old addresses, wrong numbers, duplicate profiles, and listings created by someone else.

  3. Step 03

Fix or remove what is wrong

I correct listings that let me edit them, claim the ones that allow claiming, and request removal of duplicates. Where a site gives no way to edit, I record it and move on.

What this finds. Which listings were fixed, which are waiting on the site, and which cannot be changed.

  4. Step 04

    Fill the gaps that matter

I create or complete listings in the core, social, and industry groups where you are missing, using the agreed details and a short, accurate description.

What this finds. A set of correct listings on the sites your customers actually use.

  5. Step 05

    Hand over the record

You get the spreadsheet with every listing, its login owner, and its status, so you can update all of them yourself when something changes.

What this finds. A record you own, which saves the same cleanup next time you move or change number.

Most of the listings I create are made in your name, with your email, so you keep control. Where I need access, we agree on it first, and I hand everything back at the end.

Cleanup before building

Old listings cause more trouble than missing ones. The common cases I see:

  • A move. The business changed premises, updated its Google profile, and forgot the ten other places that still show the old address.
  • A new number. A mobile number replaced the landline, or a staff member's personal number was used years ago and still appears.
  • A rebrand. The trading name changed, but listings under the old name still rank for searches.
  • Duplicates. Two Google profiles for one business, often one made by a previous agency or an employee. This needs care, because merging or removing the wrong one can cause bigger problems.
  • Data you never entered. Maps services and directories sometimes build listings from other sources. These need claiming before they can be fixed.

Duplicate or conflicting profiles can also be a factor in profile suspensions. If that has already happened, read what to do when your profile is suspended before changing anything. For profiles already restricted, the appeal itself is handled under profile reinstatement help.

Bulk citation packages

Search results for citation building in Pakistan are full of gigs offering thousands of listings for a small fee. I understand why they sell. Here is why I do not offer them.

A real example from a local business

The local result I can show comes from an electrician in New Orleans, in the United States. The name is redacted in the tracker. Three things changed together: we cleaned inconsistent name, address, and phone details across directories, rebuilt the Business Profile categories and attributes, and added local service pages with LocalBusiness schema.

On a 9 by 9 geo-grid for its main search, the average Map Pack rank moved from , with 71 of 81 grid points ranking in the top three in the later scan, against none before.

Geo-grid scan after the local work for an electrician, showing most grid points ranking in the top three of the Map Pack

Three limits apply, and they matter. The citation cleanup was one of three changes, so this result cannot be credited to citations alone. The before and after grids were centred on different parts of the city, so the comparison is indicative, not like for like. And the scan dates are not shown in the screenshots. The business is in the United States, not Pakistan. You can read the whole case in the electrician geo-grid write-up.

Prices in PKR

Citation work is part of these options on my published price list. There is no per listing price.

OptionPriceWhat it includes
Google Business Profile launch and optimisationPKR 45,000 one time, 3 to 5 business daysProfile setup or fixes, categories, and citation alignment for the core listings
Local and growth starterPKR 85,000 per monthProfile work, citation cleanup across 25 Pakistani business directories, and on-page work for your main pages
Strategy callPKR 15,000 per hourA review of your listings and profile with a list of fixes you can make yourself

A single location business with a messy history usually fits the monthly starter plan, because cleanup takes follow ups over several weeks. A new business with nothing to clean up may only need the one time profile option. If you would rather fix the listings yourself, a single paid hour with me gives you the list and the order. Every monthly plan is compared on the local and growth plan prices.

When to expect a change

  1. Week 1

    True details and search

The agreed version is written down, and every existing listing is found and recorded.

  2. Month 1

    Fixes requested

Editable listings are corrected, duplicates reported, and missing core listings created.

  3. Month 3

    Follow ups and review

Slow sites are chased, the record is updated, and we check what customers now see.

Some sites update a listing in minutes. Others take weeks, and a few never respond. Google may take time to reflect changes. Because citations are a small factor, I do not promise a ranking change from this work, and I report what was fixed rather than a rank.

Notes for businesses in Pakistan

Addresses here are often written several ways: with or without the block or phase, with a nearby landmark, in English or in Urdu. Pick one written form that matches your Google profile and use it everywhere in English listings. Where a listing is in Urdu, keep the same parts in the same order, so a customer can match it to your sign.

Many businesses here list a mobile number that belongs to the owner or a staff member. When that person leaves, every listing breaks. A dedicated business number, kept for years, saves repeated cleanup.

Facebook pages are often the most current listing a Pakistani business has. I check them first, because customers do, and they are often where old numbers survive.

Chambers of commerce and trade bodies in Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad, and Rawalpindi publish member lists, and many professions have councils with public directories. These are worth more than general directories, because they confirm what you do. Firms in Rawalpindi can see local search help in Rawalpindi for the city detail.

Assistants and AI answers also read listings and profiles when they describe a business. Consistent details across the web help there too, which I cover under visibility in AI answers.

The tools I use

  • Google Business Profile, as the source for the agreed details
  • Google Search and Maps, to find listings under current and old names, numbers, and addresses
  • A shared spreadsheet that records every listing, its status, and who owns the login
  • Each directory's own claim and edit process, used by hand
  • A geo-grid tracker, when we want to see how Map Pack positions look across your area

Frequently asked questions

What is local citation building?

It is finding, fixing, and adding mentions of your business name, address, and phone number on other websites, such as maps, directories, social profiles, and industry bodies, so that every one of them shows the same correct details.

Do citations still help Google Maps ranking?

A little, mostly by keeping your details consistent and adding mentions from trusted sites. Google's guidance names relevance, distance, and prominence, with links and reviews as signs of prominence. Your profile, reviews, and website matter more.

How many citations does my business need?

There is no target number. A small business usually needs its core map listings, its social profiles, and a few trusted industry or local listings, all correct. Quality and accuracy matter more than count.

Are bulk citation packages safe?

They are rarely worth it. Most listings land on sites nobody visits, they cannot be kept up to date, and inconsistent versions of your details undo the point of the work.

How do you fix a wrong address on old listings?

I edit the listing where the site allows it, claim it where claiming is possible, or request a correction or removal. Some sites never respond, so I record those and focus on the listings people actually see.

Should I list my home address?

If you serve customers at their location and do not want visitors at home, Google lets you hide your address and set a service area on your profile. Other listings should follow the same choice.

Which directories matter in Pakistan?

Start with Google, Apple Maps, and Bing Places, then your Facebook page and review profiles, then chambers of commerce, trade bodies, and professional councils. General directories come last and only where they are real and visited.

How much does citation building cost?

On this site, citation alignment is part of the PKR 45,000 profile option, and full cleanup is part of the PKR 85,000 monthly starter plan. A PKR 15,000 call covers a review if you want to do the work yourself.

How long before citation work shows an effect?

Corrections on editable sites can show within days. Others take weeks or never update. The effect on ranking is small and slow, so I report fixes made, not a ranking change.
