Independent SEO Consulting

SEO consulting services: direction for the team you already have

I am Muhammad Usman Ali, an independent SEO consultant based in Pakpattan, Punjab, Pakistan. I work alone: I find the cause, put the work in order, and check it before launch, while your team or agency builds it.

Who This Consulting Suits

  • Store owners with a developer or agency already in place.
  • Agencies that want a second opinion on a hard case.
  • Founders facing a sudden traffic drop after a Google update.

Who Should Skip This Service

  • ✕Businesses seeking automated link packages or PBN rentals.
  • ✕Founders who want a promised ranking or a fixed date.
  • ✕Teams with nobody who can carry out the changes.

How the Consulting Work Runs

Phase 01

Diagnosis & Baseline

A crawl of your site, a look at server responses, and a read of your Search Console data to find the real cause.

Phase 02

A Ranked Plan

Fixes put in order of impact and effort, written so your developer or writer can act on them without a meeting.

Phase 03

Reviews Before Launch

I check new templates, redirects, and pages before they go live, so a mistake is caught while it is cheap.

Phase 04

Follow Up in Search Console

After release I recheck the affected pages in Search Console and tell you plainly what changed and what did not.

Consulting outcome

A B2B services firm grew organic clicks by , from 5.7K to 23.3K, comparing the last 3 months with the 3 months before.

Talk Through Your Consulting Scope

Calls are PKR 15,000 per hour. Monthly plans start at PKR 85,000.

Key takeaway

SEO consulting services give you a senior person who finds the real cause, puts the work in order, and checks it before launch, while your own team or agency builds and writes. It suits businesses that already have people to do the work. If nobody can carry out the changes, you need hands-on execution instead.

Who this is for, and who should skip it

A consultant is useful when the work is being done but the results are not following. The manager is capable, the developer replies quickly, and content goes out on time. Yet nobody can say why growth stalled, and every new idea gets added to the list without anything being removed. That is a direction problem, and more output will not fix it.

This is for you if

  • You have a marketing person, a developer, or an agency who can make changes within a few weeks.
  • Traffic or enquiries stopped growing and nobody inside the business can explain why.
  • You face a costly decision, such as a redesign, a new platform, or entering a new market.
  • You pay an agency every month and want an independent view of whether the work is sound.
  • You run an agency and need senior help on a hard client case.

Skip this if

  • Nobody on your side can edit the site or write pages. A plan will sit unused.
  • You want someone to promise rankings by a date. I will not, and nobody honest can.
  • Your site is brand new with no history. Start with a clean build, then measure.

Consultant or agency: which one you need

The question is not which is better. It is who will do the work. An agency sells execution, so its staff write, build, and report. A consultant sells judgement, so your people do the work and the consultant decides what it should be and checks it.

QuestionIndependent consultantTypical agency
Who makes the changes?Your team, developer, or current agencyThe agency's own staff
Who do you speak to?The consultant, every timeUsually an account manager
What are you paying for?Diagnosis, order of work, and reviewHours of execution across a team
How is advice backed up?Each point is tied to your own Search Console dataOften shown as activity in a monthly report
When is it the right choice? You can implement but lack senior directionYou have no one who can implement at all

The last row matters most. If you have no staff, no developer access, and no time, a consulting plan will sit in a folder. In that case, a monthly plan where I do the work is a better use of money, and monthly plans with fixed inclusions lists what each one covers. If you already pay for execution and still do not grow, what is missing is usually the diagnosis.

What the consulting covers

My SEO consulting services have seven parts. Each part below can be bought on its own as a one off piece of work, or combined into a monthly arrangement. Every recommendation names the page, the reason, and the check that will show whether it worked.

Finding the real problem

Every engagement starts with a diagnosis, never a guess. I read Google Search Console, analytics, and a crawl of the site, then line up the dates when traffic moved with what changed on the site. The written finding often differs from what the owner or the last agency believed. When the problem is a fall in visits, the method follows my guide to working out why visits fell.

A ranked plan with a stop list

A long list of tasks with no order creates chaos. You get the work in sequence: what to fix this month, what to build next quarter, and what to stop. The stop list often saves more time than any new task. It usually includes pages that compete with each other, link buying, and content aimed at searches that will never convert.

Reviews before anything ships

I review briefs, drafts, redirect maps, and technical changes before they go live. A short review at that point is far cheaper than months of recovery afterwards. Each review is written down: what is sound, what is risky, and what to change.

A second opinion on your current agency

If you pay an agency, I compare what was promised, what was delivered, and what your data shows. Some agency work is good, and I say so when it is. The point is that you can check what you pay for.

Redesigns and platform moves

Rankings are most often lost during a move. I review the new structure before it is built, check the old to new address map line by line, test the staging site, and watch the first weeks after launch while mistakes are still easy to undo.

Training for your team

Consulting should leave your team stronger. Sessions cover reading Search Console without panic, judging a brief before writing starts, and spotting bad advice from a tool, a blog, or another provider. Each session uses your own site's data.

A monthly review

For ongoing clients, a regular session covers what the data shows, what was finished, what is blocked, and what comes next. Priorities are reset from fresh data, not from last quarter's plan.

How an engagement runs

  1. Step 01

A first call about the problem

We talk about your site, your team, what changed, and what you have tried. If consulting is the wrong fit, I say so on this call.

What this finds. Whether you need direction, hands-on work, a one time audit, or nothing from me.

  2. Step 02

    Read access and a diagnosis

You add me to Search Console and analytics with read access. I crawl the site and compare the data with its history.

What this finds. The cause, written down, with the pages and dates that prove it.

  3. Step 03

A planning session with the people who will do the work

I take your team through the findings, the order of work, and the stop list. Anyone can challenge any point.

What this finds. A plan your team agrees with and can start the same week.

  4. Step 04

A review rhythm while the work is done

I review changes before release and check results against the starting data.

What this finds. Problems caught early, and a clear record of what moved and why.

If you only want the diagnosis, a one time audit you can hand to a developer covers it. If you want the technical fixes made for you rather than specified, hands-on technical fixes are a separate service.

What a written finding looks like

Every finding I write follows the same pattern, so your team can act on it without a meeting. The example below is made up to show the format. It is not taken from a client report.

A finding without evidence is an opinion. A finding without a check is a guess. Each one in my reports has both.

The questions Google tells you to ask, answered

Google publishes advice for owners who are thinking of hiring an SEO. It lists questions to ask before you hire anyone. Here are my answers, so you do not have to wait for a call.

Google's question, in shortMy answer
Can you show examples of past work?Yes. The case studies on this site show Search Console screenshots, the method, and the limits of each result.
Do you follow Google Search Essentials?Yes. I do not buy links, build doorway pages, or hide text, and I explain any change before it is made.
What results do you expect, and how do you measure them?I set a baseline from your Search Console and measure the same report over the same length of time. I do not forecast positions.
What is your experience in my industry and country?I have worked on ecommerce, B2B services, local service businesses, and content sites, in Pakistan and abroad. Ask me about your market on the call.
How will we communicate, and will you share every change? You talk to me directly. Every recommendation is written, with the reason and the evidence behind it.

Google also advises giving an auditor read access to Search Console only, being wary of anyone who claims a special relationship with Google, and checking a tool's advice against official guidance. I agree with all three. You can read more about my background and how I work before you decide.

Proof from client work

One example shows what direction plus implementation can do. A B2B services firm in North America and the UK had four regional pages competing for the same searches. We merged them into single pages, one per intent, rebuilt the service markup, and improved page speed.

Comparing the last 3 months of Search Console data with the 3 months before, organic clicks grew , from 5.7K to 23.3K. Impressions rose from 102K to 328K.

Search Console report for a B2B services firm, organic clicks rising from 5.7K to 23.3K and impressions from 102K to 328K across two 3 month periods

The screenshot does not show exact dates, and the firm is not based in Pakistan. A Pakistani business in a different market will see different numbers. The full story is in the business services consolidation case, including what we changed in which order.

Myths about hiring a consultant

Myth. A consultant is only for big companies.

What is true. Size matters less than having someone who can make the changes. A founder with one developer can use a consultant well.

Myth. A consultant just hands over a report and leaves.

What is true. The report is the start. Most of the value comes from reviewing work before launch and changing the plan when the data moves.

Myth. You should always pick someone in your own city.

What is true. Google's advice is to ask about experience in your country or city. Market knowledge matters more than being in the same building.

Myth. More tasks each month means more progress.

What is true. Progress comes from doing the few tasks that matter and stopping the ones that do not.

What consulting costs

Every price below is in Pakistani rupees, from the price list I publish on this site.

OptionPriceBest when
Strategy callPKR 15,000 per hour, scheduled within 48 hoursYou want a second opinion or answers to a few hard questions
Forensic technical SEO auditPKR 120,000 one time, 7 to 10 business daysYou want the full diagnosis in writing before deciding on ongoing help
Commercial growth retainerPKR 150,000 per monthYou want monthly reviews, a working plan, and a bi-weekly call
Market leader and scalePKR 280,000 per monthYou have in-house engineers and want weekly work alongside them

Most clients who buy SEO consulting services start with one strategy call or the audit, judge the thinking, and only then decide on monthly help. Nothing is charged later that was not agreed first. If you would rather I write the pages as well as plan them, writing the pages for you is priced separately.

How long before you see a change

  1. Week 1

    Diagnosis

You get the cause in writing and the first fixes ranked by how many pages they touch.

  2. Month 1

    First fixes live

Your team ships the top items, and I review each one before release.

  3. Month 3

    First comparison

We compare Search Console with the baseline and reset the plan from the new data.

Technical fixes can show as soon as Google recrawls the pages. Content and authority work takes longer. I cannot promise when any page will rank, and the plan does not depend on that.

Notes for businesses in Pakistan

Many Pakistani businesses have a developer on retainer or a freelancer who built the site, and an agency that sends a monthly PDF. Nobody connects the two. Consulting works well here because it puts one person in charge of the decisions while the people you already pay do the building.

Shops and service firms here often run on WhatsApp. If your enquiries come by WhatsApp, we track those clicks too, not only form fills. Otherwise the reports undercount what search brings in.

Owners often ask whether they should rank in English or Roman Urdu. The answer is in your own data. The Performance report shows which words already bring impressions, and the plan follows them.

Different work suits different businesses. A clinic or law firm may need local and Map Pack work more than a new blog. An online store usually needs store specific SEO work on filters and categories first.

If you want your brand to show in AI assistants such as ChatGPT or Gemini, the same foundations matter. My guide on brands AI assistants leave out covers what to check. If you want the full list of what I do, see every service I offer.

Frequently asked questions

What does an SEO consultant do?

An SEO consultant finds why a site is not getting the search traffic it should, sets the order of work, and checks changes before they go live. Your team or agency usually does the building and writing.

Do you do the work, or only advise?

I diagnose, plan, and review. Your team, developer, or agency makes the changes. If you have no one to do the work, a monthly plan where I do it is a better fit.

Is it worth hiring an SEO consultant for a small business?

Sometimes not. Google says a small local business can do much of the work itself. A consultant is worth it when the problem is technical, the decision is costly, or your team needs a clear plan to follow.

Can you review my current agency's work?

Yes. I compare what was promised, what was delivered, and what your Search Console shows, and give you a written view. If the work is sound, I say so.

How is consulting different from your audit?

The audit is a one time written diagnosis that ends with the report. Consulting adds ongoing direction while your team works: reviews, plan changes, and training. Many clients start with the audit.

Can this be a one off job?

Yes. A redesign review, a platform move, a traffic fall, or a second opinion before a big decision can each be a single piece of work with a written result.

Do you work with agencies?

Yes. Agencies bring me hard cases such as a fall after a migration or a site that stalled with no clear cause. I do the diagnosis and the plan, and the agency keeps its client relationship.

Should I hire a local consultant or a remote one?

Experience with your market matters more than distance. Most of the work happens in Search Console, shared documents, and calls. I work with clients in Lahore, elsewhere in Pakistan, and abroad.

How quickly will we see results?

It depends on what the diagnosis finds. Technical fixes can change crawling and indexing within weeks. Content problems take longer. Anyone who gives a timeline before seeing your data is guessing.
